What Are Full Arch Dental Implants?
Full arch dental implants (also called full mouth or full jaw implants) replace all the teeth in one jaw using a small number of implants as anchors. Rather than placing one implant per tooth, four to six titanium implants are positioned in the jawbone to support a fixed bridge of teeth across the whole arch.
The result is a secure, fixed solution designed to restore everyday function, including eating and speaking, while being cared for much like natural teeth.

Fixed Implant Bridges
Once your implants have integrated with the jawbone, a fixed bridge of teeth is anchored on top. The bridge stays put around the clock, so there's no adhesive, nothing to take out at night, and no plate covering the roof of your mouth. You clean it the way you'd clean natural teeth, with brushing and interdental cleaning.
An Alternative To Removable Dentures
If you've been wearing removable dentures for a while, full arch implants offer a non-removable option, anchored to the jawbone rather than sitting on your gums. That said, fixed teeth aren't for everyone. Some patients like keeping the option of taking their dentures out, and snap-on dentures might suit them better. We'll talk through the trade-offs with you at your consultation.
Bone Grafting
In some cases, you may not have enough healthy bone to support dental implants, but that doesn’t necessarily mean implants aren’t an option. Bone grafting can help rebuild areas where bone has been lost, creating a stronger foundation for implant placement. It's a common preparatory step, and we'll let you know at your consultation if it's something you'll need.
Same Day Full Arch Placement
In some cases, extractions and implant placement can happen in the same appointment, with a temporary bridge fitted the same day. Whether that's suitable comes down to the condition of your remaining teeth and the surrounding bone, which we'll assess when we see you.

Clinical Assessment & Treatment Planning
If you would like to proceed, we’ll arrange another appointment, or extend your consultation if time permits, to take detailed 3D scans using our CBCT scanner at Oran Park. A fee applies. These scans help us assess your suitability and finalise your treatment options, plan and quote for you to consider at home.
Extractions and Implant Placement
Any remaining teeth in the arch that need to come out are extracted, and the implants are placed in your jawbone under local anaesthetic. If you’d prefer extra comfort, IV sedation is available at our Oran Park clinic. In many cases, a temporary bridge is fitted the same day so you are not left without teeth during the healing process.
Healing
The implants fuse with your jawbone, typically over three months, through a process called osseointegration. You’ll wear your temporary bridge during this time while everything settles. We’ll also pre-schedule post-operative reviews to monitor your healing, keep you comfortable and identify any concerns early.
Final Trial & Bridge Placement
We’ll trial your new full arch prosthesis to check the shape, feel and bite, making any adjustments before the final prosthesis is made. Once ready, your final teeth are fitted and checked for comfort and function. You’ll also receive clear instructions on caring for your implants at home and between routine dental visits.
Ongoing Care
Dental implants are designed to be a long-term solution, and ongoing care plays an important role in their longevity. Just like natural teeth, your implants and gums need regular professional checks and cleaning but the frequency could vary. We’ll schedule regular check-ups and professional cleans to monitor your implants, gums and overall oral health.

Frequently Asked Questions
Bone loss doesn't automatically rule you out as a candidate for full arch implants. Bone grafting can rebuild lost bone before implant placement, and in some cases, implants can be angled to make use of the bone that remains. We'll assess your case with a 3D scan at your consultation.
Full mouth dental implants are designed to last for many years with good care, often a decade or more. The bridge on top gets daily use, so it may need adjustment or replacement over the years, similar to other dental restorations.
Recovery time after a full arch procedure varies by patient, but swelling and tenderness usually settle within the first week. Most patients are back to normal activities within a few days. Full osseointegration (the process where the implants fuse with your jawbone) takes three to six months, during which you wear the temporary bridge.
Implant-supported teeth and traditional dentures work quite differently. Traditional dentures rest on your gums and are held in place by suction, adhesive, or clasps. Implant-supported teeth are anchored to titanium implants placed in your jawbone, so they stay in place when you eat or speak, and there's nothing to take out at night.
