Preventative Dental Care for
Healthy Teeth & Gums

Our teeth need regular care and attention by our dentist. Although we may brush our teeth everyday this is still not enough. Plaque builds up on our teeth. This accumulates from the foods and beverages we consume. Plaque contains bacteria. Bacteria invade the food debris and form between our teeth and below the gum line which causes decay and gum disease.

The long term plaque can become hardened and can only be removed by the dentist. One of the most effective ways to support a healthy smile is to prevent problems before they develop.

Some tips for
maintaining healthy teeth

  • Eat Well: Enjoy a wide variety of nutritious foods and healthy snacks. Limit your intake of sweet foods, especially between meals.
  • Play Well: Wear a professionally fitted mouth guard when training or playing contact sports. If a tooth is damaged or knocked out, contact us immediately for an emergency appointment.
  • Drink Well: Drink plenty of tap water. Avoid sweet or fizzy drinks. If consumed, have them with meals rather than between meals.
  • Stay Well: Don’t wait for a problem. Have regular oral health check-ups. Ask your oral health professional how often you should have check ups. If you smoke, quit for good.
  • Clean Well: Clean your teeth twice a day. Brush your teeth gently and thoroughly with well fluoridated toothpaste with a soft toothbrush. Floss at least once a day. Ask our dentist for a lesson in correct flossing procedure. When possible, chew sugarless gum after meals.
